Earthing: Through Nature Back to Ourselves
Exhibition Statement
This series explores the beginning of a journey to (re)connect with the natural world. Taking moments to appreciate and remember the interconnectedness we hold within and the way it reflects in our realities and everyday lives. In modern day life we have became distant or displaced from our roots and the relationship we have with nature and the land. This journey encounters the unveiled stories of our ancestors - to further understand ourselves and how we came to be.
The figures of the paintings are set in Botanics Dundee where Shona spent time with friends to explore how we can find moments in nature away from our fast-paced lives. The paintings are an amalgamation of working from live drawing, photography, watercolour painting and imagination.
Her practice creates space for thoughtfulness and compassion with how we interact with each other, ourselves and our environment. Shona is also interested in finding to moments of recuperation, escape through her work, as well as uplifting community and friendship.
This project was supported in conjunction with Dòigh Nàdair Artist in Residence programme organised by Rhubaba Gallery & Studios.
